around the block so I could gawk at the houses decked out with all the over-the-top holiday decorations. Sprawled out on the front lawns like colorful pieces on a Candy Land board game, the gigantic blow-up Santa Claus and epic nativity scenes would be lined with red, yellow, white and blue lights, illuminating the night sky.

Whether you think all this ornamentation is excessively gaudy or a creative display of our inner Martha Stewart, the holidays have a fun way of making us feel like children again. During this festive season, our homes can become extensions of our fairytale dreams. And in the age of computers and videos, homeowners are pushing the creative envelope and finding new ways to choreograph their illuminated light shows to fun holiday tunes. Every time I drive by a house that’s glowing with lights, I think about my brother and smile.

If you have boring neighbors that don’t get into the holiday spirit, check out the high-tech Christmas light shows on YouTube. The Wizards of Winter 2 is one of my favorites. Happy holidays! from Opening Doors and the Homescape family.
